Kaduna clears criminals’ hideouts

The Kaduna State government has started clearing possible criminal hideouts on the Kaduna Airpot road as the planned diversion of flights from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to Kaduna  Airport gathers momentum.

Construction and rehabilitation projects are ongoing as part of preparation for the six-week diversion to allow repair of the Abuja airport runway.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Shehu Balarabe Giwa, who led reporters on a tour of the road yesterday, said the possibility of criminals hiding in the bushes had been addressed.

He said: “As you are aware, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, will be closed at the end of March and of course, all activities will be shifted to Kaduna International Airport. So, all ongoing projects are part of contributions to create a secured and enabling environment for foreigners and citizens.

“I’m not here on behalf of the committee chaired by the Chief of Staff, Bashir Saidu, but as commissioner in charge of environment to see the nature of work being handled by Kaduna State Environmental Authority (KEPA).
