About seven commercial drivers of Keke-Napep, including the chairman Keke-Napep Association, Jema’a Local Government area have escaped from attackers in Ambam, along Goska-Dangoma districts of southern Kaduna.
The attack in which one person was injured and one keke-NAPEP was destroyed, happened as the cyclists were returning from Dangoma after dropping their passengers.
The chairman, Badamasi Adamu, who sustained minor injury from the attackers, told Daily Trust that they had started seeing unusual sign from the nearby villagers in the road. “When we reached Ambam, the villagers, including youths and women, each carrying different kinds of weapons surrounded us and started shouting ‘kill them’ and they started attacking us. We were nearly killed, if not that the mobile police quickly intervened,” he said, adding that the Mopol escorted them to the kafanchan Police Area Command, counting about ten illegal roadblocks mounted by the villagers from Goska toTakau II.
A car driver, Sulaiman Tanko Bature, who also escaped from the attackers, told Daily Trust that they were attacked somewhere in Takau II, on their way going to Dangoma. “I was taking my sister to Dangoma when the youths attacked us in Takau II where they mounted heavy roadblocks and they suddenly surrounded us. One of the attackers was trying to open the door when I reversed and sped off to kafanchan,” he said.
The Kaduna state PPRO, Aliyu Usman, confirmed the incident to our reporter, adding that they would put to an end the mounting of illegal roadblocks and that anybody caught mounting roadblocks would surely face the law.
