– Lawmaker confirms he will honour his party’s invitation
– Jibrin says he is confident his party would support him
– Jibrin says the letter did come from the party’s disciplinary committee
Abdulmumin Jibrin
Kano lawmaker and whistleblower on the budget padding scandal currently rocking the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accused speaker Yakubu Dogara of trying to kidnap him.
Jibrin made the allegation on his Twitter handle on Tuesday just as he confirmed that he would answer the call of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), which had summoned him over the battle with Dogara on the now-infamous issue.
Jibrin, who has been quite furtive with his movements recently; shuttling between his Kano and Abuja residences and not answering calls or replying to text messages, explained that he did not get the party’s earlier summons via phone or sms because he was avoiding getting kidnapped by the House’s leadership.
“The Party had stated that it has made several attempt to reach me through calls and text messages. I did not receive any, even if I did, it would have been very difficult for me to attend because of attempt by QUARTET of Speaker Dogara and others who were determined to kidnap me until few days when my lawyers requested and got maximum protection for me from the DSS and police, ” the Kano lawmaker said.
“I will now respond to the issue of invitation from my Party the APC and the corrupt member who Obasanjo referred to as rogue Hon Jagaba Adams
“My attention has been drawn to media reports that I have been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee of our great party. That I received a letter yesterday evening inviting me to a meeting in respect of the crisis in the House today by 2pm at party’s office.”
Jibrin, who noted that the letter did not sound worrying at all, confirmed that he would squeeze time out to honour the invitation because he is sure that his party would back him up in his fight against corruption in the legislature.
“The letter did not in anyway indicate it is a disciplinary committee. And I have responded that I will attend the meeting despite my tight schedules shuttling between security and anti corruption agencies to provide support and evidence against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and 9 others.
“ I am confident that the party will do the rightful thing by throwing its weight to support our resolve to wipe out corruption in the House.”
NAIJ.com recalls that Jibrin began to reveal alleged corrupt practices by the leadership of the lower house in July, claiming that the Speaker and some other top members of the House padded the 2016 budget sent to them by President Muhammadu Buhari.
