Tertiary Institutions In Southern Kaduna To Reopen

Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, has ordered the resumption of tertiary institutions in Southern Kaduna following the return of peace to area. In addition, he announced a multi-campus system, in which each local government will have a tertiary institution. This the governor said would make the institutions more inclusive, adding a government memo had been drafted for the purpose

He believed the tertiary institutions would over time evolve into fully-fledged universities, saying campuses of the University of California system and those of the University of London had evolved through similar process.

Governor El-Rufai said this when he received the some stakeholders from the area, including Air Commodore E.K.Jekada and Bishop George Dodo, the Catholic Bishop of Zaria. He thank the stakeholders for to restore peace in the local government areas known for bloody ethnic conflicts.

“I salute you for helping to uphold a common humanity, for keeping the voice of reason alive. It is voices like yours that are helping to anchor peace, upsetting the designs of people who think that a relentless focus on ethnicity and religion is the best way to advance their personal agenda. We are determined not to allow anyone to profit from strife. Thank you for your contributions to the steady advance of peace,” the governor said.

A government statement quoted Bishop Dodo saying it was clear the government mursed good intentions. Air Commodore Jekada was said to have expressed appreciation to security agencies and the state government for working restore order and make a return to normalcy possible. He pledged that they will continue to support and cooperate with the government for peace and development in southern Kaduna.
