WE ARE THE FUTURE, BUT THE KIDS ARE A GREATER FUTURE.

WE ARE THE FUTURE, BUT THE KIDS ARE A GREATER FUTURE.

There are sensible grown ups
And there are sensible young people

The reason a grown up is sensible is because he was probably sensible when younger.
The reason any grown up is insensible is because they were probably insensible when younger.

Fact is, people don't just change.
If you lack basic values when you are younger you wouldn't suddenly begin to exhibit them when older.

If the Nigerian situation today isn't satisfactory, it must be noted that these dissatisfactions are primarily as a result of the shortcomings an older generation, not necessarily the inputs of the younger folk.

We must note that the millennials(youths) who are often branded as the spoilt bunch have made little or no direct impact on our nation particularly in the area of leadership. As such they should be absolved of most of the responsibility when it comes to our current setbacks as a country.

Our nation has experienced serial failures in leadership which has left us in a currently precarious state. While we hope that the incumbent authorities will fix the serial decay, it's important to once again reiterate that most of the current generation of young Nigerians have had no involvement whatsoever in making or implementing key decisions.

Come to think of it; if these seemingly spoilt millennials are not contributing significantly to decision making, what then happens when they are at the helm?

Therefore, these younger millennials must take responsibility for the future and realize that the paths they follow today will be the very same they tread in the future.

If you can't change now, you may never change.

Getting older has a way of calming one down, the exuberance will be gone but the ignorance doesn't leave. What you choose not to learn now you wouldn't know when older.

I say this because we often misinterpret the cool, calm demeanor of some older people as wisdom. Not all experience is tried and trusted.

There is also the misconception that being older automatically validates ones views. Look, some people have consistently gained the wrong experience and if such a person expects a younger one to subscribe to their views based simply on experience then that person would be thinking erroneously.

Life is already too complicated, but we all really can make it less complicated by desiring to learn from others and from many great men before us who achieved by following basic ethics, etiquettes, or principles in their chosen paths.

The young people must imbibe the humility to communicate with and understand others. That way it will be easier to sift between those with flawed experiences and those whose opinions are validated by their works.

I feel the greatest asset of the young person is exposure. A person exposed to the proper way of doing things will move faster than the one who knows not the right strategy of the time. But experience balances everything in that it opens our eyes to avoid the mistakes of the past. Experience helps us manage our exposure better.

We can learn from our own experiences, better still is to learn from the experiences of those before us. That way we'll save time and achieve quicker and better results.

There are already many young Nigerians who are pre-defining what seems like an obscure future. These ones are setting the pace for a greater and better tomorrow. Let's all get on board even as we prepare to take the reigns from the generations before us. They have done their best, but we can do better.

More importantly is to support and assist the much more younger folk. I mean the children whose ideologies and opinions are still being formed. They deserve to be shown the best possible path to follow in order to make their own subsequent choices.

Happy Children's Day!
