Sokoto House of Assembly has passed the state budget proposal of N204.3 billion just as it stressed the need for a harmonised tax law in the state to enhance revenue generation.
The Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji announced the passage of the bill after the members of assembly unanimously accepted all the recommendations of the Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
“The Assembly do authorize the issue out of the consolidated revenue fund of the state the sum of N 204, 288, 741.000.
This is for the purpose of making provisions for the services of Sokoto State of Nigeria, in respect of the financial year ending Dec. 31, 2017 and to appropriate the sum for the purposes specified in the law.”
Earlier, while presenting recommendations of the committee , the chairman, Alhaji Malami Ahmad stated that the Board of Internal Revenue should process the review of obsolete Tax Laws in the state.
He said the committee also recommended that: “All MDAs should be alerted to track their approved personnel costs and process virement in good time if need be, to avoid salary stoppage.”
It also pointed out the need for the Assembly to brace up in conducting oversight functions to fast track budget performance and implementation in all MDAs.
