Ayo Fayose gave out N50 million naira to all teachers in Ekiti state as a reward for their NECO performance – The governor also gave out cars and cash gifts to the best teachers in the state – He said the gift was to motivate them to further ensure that their students perform well
Ayo Fayose, the Ekiti state governor has described himself as the real change while speaking to teachers at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital. At the event which was meant to commemorate the World Teachers’ Day, he displayed a poster bearing the inscription: ‘Fayose The Real Change’. He donated N50 million to the teachers in the state, stating that the gift was in recognition of the sound performance of the state in the just-released NECO results where Ekiti state had the best result in the country. The governor then directed that the state accountant-general to ensure that each of the beneficiaries received their shares on or before Friday. He said the gift was to motivate them to further ensure that their students perform well in both NECO and WAEC in subsequent years by keeping the flag flying. He also donated brand new cars to the two best teachers at the primary and secondary level in the state as a way to encourage them to do more. Two runners-up received N200,000 each, while two teachers who came third got N100,000 each.
Explaining the reason behind his gift-giving, Fayose said: “I am doing all of these because Ekiti’s name has been brought under world focus once again, and it is my wish that our current academic feat be repeated over and over again, after all to whom much is given, much is expected.” Meanwhile, the governor is doing far more as the Ekiti state government on Wednesday, October 5, announced the commencement of the implementation of its Social Welfare Scheme for the needy, aged and unemployed. Ten thousand beneficiaries under the scheme who are already shortlisted, would receive N5,000 each monthly.
