The expectations of many Nigerians that the Abuja-Kaduna railway project will kick-off soon may have been misplaced.
This is because of the slow-pace of work in the project despite workers on site working consistently to make sure the project is completed soon.
NAIJ.com tour to the project sites in Wuye and Idu in Abuja and Rigassa in Kaduna indicates that the project will take time before it comes on stream.
Already, the date given by minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the take-off of the project has already elapsed.
An elated Amaechi had told newsmen on his last visit to the site in Idu that the trains will start working and transporting passengers from the first week of July.
The Abuja-Kaduna railway project is a 186km line with standard gauge railway tracks. It will feature both passenger and cargo trains.
When completed, the travel time between Abuja and Kaduna will be reduced to one hour and each passenger train can carry up to 5,000 commuters.
